Another day, another core complex

Dredge 11 was recovered early this morning and recovered peridotite gravel mixed with small glacial erratics. At that point we turned to continue our multi beam survey with a long line to the north to cross magnetic anomaly 5n, in order to ultimately tie down overall plate spreading rates. And, perhaps, unsurprisingly we soon realized we were crossing another large oceanic core complex; that’s the 6th one we’ve documented so far. Below is one we mapped earlier.

Table Mountain Core Complex rising to just 500m below sea level. The red area has a flat, wave-cut, top which was once near sea level. Field of view is about 20 km across.
